The 2010
legislative
session will
probably be best
remembered for
the passage and
subsequent veto
of SB 6. It
will, among
public education
and child
advocates, not
be remembered
fondly for
passing
legislation that
advanced child
safety and
protection or
enhanced public
education.
PTA's rallying
cry of Article
IX, Section 1,
Your Oath -Your
Duty, should
have been a
constant
reminder to
legislators that
our children
come first. Our
success will be
noted by the
fact that not
only were our
voices heard
loud and clear,
but registered
with policy
makers who
acknowledged our
efforts time and
again. This
drumbeat needs
to continue
through the
summer of this
rather busy
election season
and throughout
future
legislative
sessions.
We will keep you
updated as
events unfold.
There is
speculation that
the budget may
be vetoed and a
special session
scheduled. We
will let you
know as soon as
we have definite
information on
any of these
events.
We thank you
for all of your
efforts on
behalf of
children and
education. You
made a
difference this
year and were
energized,
engaged and
instrumental in
shaping
legislation.
Florida PTA
truly spoke for
every child with
one voice and
you were an
integral part of
all our advocacy
efforts. Our
sincere
appreciation to
each and every
one of you for
your commitment
to children.

Bill Update
We have noted
the passage of
bills on our
list in our
weekly updates.
Two pending
bills, child
booster seats
and texting, a
priority to
ensure the
safety of
children, passed
the senate, but
were held up by
individual
Representatives
in the House.
