During a week where
Florida PTA brought
nearly 2,000
parents, students
and educators to the
Capitol to rally for
education funding,
the Legislature took
action in committee
and on the floor of
the Senate on
several education
bills. Thank you
for responding to
our alerts on all
these bills. We may
not have prevailed,
but we were heard.
SB 2
(class size), SB 4
(accountability), SB
6 (teacher pay) and
SB 2126 (vouchers)
all passed the
senate floor. To
see how your senator
voted on these
bills, please go to

to start serious
work on the budget.

We
thank all those who
attended the rally
and made it such a
great success. We
will have pictures
of the event on our
website really soon.
YOU made it
happen and
YOU were
noticed. As reported
in the Miami Herald
''In
the past couple of
days watching the
session, we have
watched them hurt
our teachers, hurt
our classrooms, and
it's going to
continue,'' said
Karin Brown,
president of the
Florida PTA, to a
cheering rally of
2,000 parents,
students and
teachers gathered at
the Capitol to decry
the education
measures and funding
cuts.
The
fight continues and
we cannot take our
eye off the ball.
Both Houses have
released their
individual budgets
and will likely pass
them out of their
chambers, and begin
the conference
process to align the
two budgets. We
need all of our
advocates to speak
up and contact their
legislators when we
send out our alerts
and messages.
They
need to hear from as
many of us as
possible to change
the course that
Tallahassee has
taken this session,
from bills that
expand vouchers,
overturn the class
size amendment and
mandate new
standards, without
providing additional
funding to districts
to meet all the new
requirements. Keep
those calls and
emails coming and as
always
THANK
YOU
for
all your advocacy
efforts.
